About Me

I have 15 years experience as a software engineer in San Diego and am currently the VP of Technology at Advanced Reservation Systems. In a small company I wear a few different hats. One day I can be meeting with the other senior leadership to help define our company's goals and strategies. The next day I can be pair programming with an engineer or collaborating with the team on a feature design.

While most of my experience is writing code and solving engineering problems, I am gravitating toward product management. It is exciting to analyze user behavior metrics then introduce or enhance features based on those observations. I find it especially rewarding when one of those changes results in meeting or exceeding a business goal.

Highlights

  • Responsible for all technical decisions and building the department.
  • Planned and helped execute the refactoring project of a large (500K+ lines) legacy PHP 4 application into a modern framework on Symfony2 and PHP 7.4.
  • Modernized development processes and tools speeding up development time, reducing production errors, and improving overall developer satisfaction.
  • Migrated two companies from local data centers to AWS and leveraged many of their services.
  • In my free time, built an internal reporting system to help other teams get more of a ROI focused view into affiliate/product sales.

Recent Projects

  • Implemented Amazon's WAF in order to add extra protection against hacks and cyberattacks.
  • Integrated a chat client with our main product and collected metrics via the chat provider's API to monitor feature success.
  • Integrated with Datadog in order to enhance system monitoring, centralize our logs, and define custom metrics.
  • Acquired Google Analytics Individual Qualification to gain a deeper understand of that tool and find ways to leverage it better.
  • Created a secure reporting API with Amazon's API Gateway to provide affiliates with sensitive information.
